When drawing feet, remember that they have to fit into shoes:) In general the biggest difficulty is in simplifying the forms. Simplifying the forms does not mean ignoring the basic anatomy. In Illustration No. 1 notice how the foot fits into very simple lines. Start by visualizing the profile as a simple triangle. The most prominent landmark in the profile view of the foot is the tarsometatarsal joint which is also the half way point as indicated. Illustration No. 2 shows the relative proportions of the foot to the head and hand.
In drawing the gesture of the foot, which is, of course, the starting point of everything I do, there is a series of points that I always take into consideration. Starting with No. 1 below, the arc created by the leg bones at the ankle becomes the most direct way to show the direction, joint and volume of the front of the foot as it connects to the leg. At the same time, the alignment of the ankle bones, high on the inside and low on the outside. The next line is drawn following the surface, going under the foot at the arch. The next line represents the flow of the big toe on the top. Also in this drawing is an indication of the heel.
In drawing No. 2, again, the line going over the foot at the joint *A* and the general lines showing the flow to the toes are the main elements. Also, I use the joint of the little toe bone on the outside “B” as a distinct landmark, as well as the pinching being created at the heel in this pose.
